How to Brew a Pot of Coffee
Introduction
This lesson will provide detailed instructions on how to brew a pot of coffee. Follow these steps and you will be enjoying a delicious cup of freshly brewed coffee from the convenience of your own kitchen. Before you begin, please make sure that you have access to the following items: a coffee maker, a coffee filter, a measuring spoon or scoop, coffee grounds, water, and a coffee cup or other container. You might want to add milk or creamer and sugar or another type of sweetener, but this is entirely up to you.
Step 1
The first thing you will do is open the coffee pot's filter basket holder and place a coffee filter into the basket.
Step 2
Next, use a measuring spoon or scoop to place the appropriate amount of coffee grounds into the filter. If you are not sure how much coffee you need, refer to the packaging in which the coffee came for further instructions. Close the filter basket when you are done.
Step 3
Now, fill the coffee carafe with water and pour the water into the water reservoir.
Step 4
Place the carafe on the heating element, and turn the coffee maker on.
Step 5
Wait for the coffee to brew. This should only take a few minutes. When the coffee maker is done brewing, pour the coffee into a cup. And milk, or creamer, and sugar or other sweetener if you would like. Now, enjoy your delicious cup of coffee.

Week 7: Activity 2 (Mashup)
Reflection
For this assignment, I had to create instruction using only audio. I had never recorded or edited my own audio before, so this was something new for me to learn. Once I figured out how to use the audio editing software, I found it rather easy to edit the audio. For this particular instruction, I am not sure that the audio-only is beneficial. In the PDF version, I have text indicating the introduction and five different steps, each of which is a separate audio file. So even though the instructions are only in the sound files, I still had to use text to guide the learner to the appropriate file. On this webpage, I have the audio files along with the corresponding text below the file, so there is redundancy here. As I worked on this assignment, I thought about how I had used audio in my own learning. One example of a highly effective use of audio which has really stuck out in my mind was the way my high school Freshman English teacher used audio to give feedback for a writing assignment. She made an effective use of the technology she had available and had one cassette tape for each student in my grade. She used a tape recorder to record her reading the paper that each student had written, and she commented on the writing as she read through the paper. When she was done, she returned the paper and cassette tape to each student. We had to listen to the tape and revise the paper accordingly. As I listened to my teacher reading my paper out loud, I could really here where parts sounded awkward or were poorly written. It was nice to get feedback other than red pen written on the side of the page. At the time, it was a large undertaking for my teacher to record feedback for each student and keep track of over 100 cassette tapes for each student. I know that it was a time consuming project for her, and she only did that for one assignment all year. In fact, this is the only instance in which I received audio feedback. With the technology that is available today, it is much easier to record and share audio. I think that there are many creative ways in which audio could be incorporated into the learning process. In my own experience, I just haven't seen very many examples of audio being used in an effective manner.
